Darren Currie

After only two months of being open, today saw Factory BJJ host its very first seminar and in short – it was brilliant!

Covering both Gi and No Gi Half Guard, Combat Base Brown Belt - Darren Currie was at the helm and with his Black Belt wife Helen on the mat, everyone had an informative and highly developmental session.

Incorporating drills with concepts and high percentage techniques the two hours flew by and in all honesty we could all be still there now! Darren’s laidback yet thorough approach to BJJ really helped get the material across and his attention to detail and technical prowess was second to none.

Giving us a whole range of ideas to play from both the top and bottom Half Guard positions, we’ve all now got months and months of material to work on.

The important thing about the seminar and the thing we’ll all take away from the session is the immediacy of what Darren showed us. He didn’t show anything that any level couldn’t plug instantly into their game. So understandably we’re all really looking forward to hitting the mat in the next few days and using what he showed to bolster all our games.

After a few customary group photos it was on to a local pub/restaurant for more than any of us could eat. It was nice to see everyone who was at the seminar out for food and that’s something which we at Factory will be doing more of in the future. (Notable mention has to go to Johnny Crimp who abused the Carvery and put everyone to shame with his intestinal fortitude.)

All in all a great day of training, food and making new friends; it was a pleasure to have both Darren and Helen down at Factory BJJ (and at the pub) and it’s certainly not the last time we’ll be having the pair down.

So a huge thanks go out to both Darren and Helen for a fantastic seminar and to everyone for coming down and showing the laid back vibe at Factory BJJ. I’m not the only one who can’t wait for the next one, my phone hasn’t stopped ringing since I got back!

See you all soon,

Adam Adshead and everyone at Factory BJJ
